Tracksters Set for Sea Ray Relays, Boston-Moon Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's track teams will participate in the pair of meets this weekend, with 19 athletes heading to the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., and the remaining 30 team members taking part in the Boston-Moon Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
Senior Juan Walker's time of 14.03 in the 110-meter hurdles run last week at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., leads the Sun Belt, while the men's 4x100-meter time of 39.97 run at the Yellowjacket Invitational and the 4x400-meter mark of 3:09.39 from last week's Texas Relays also ranks first in the conference.
Senior James Thomas leads the hammer throws, as well, after his mark of 174-9 last week at Auburn.
On the women's side, freshman Sangau Zamzam and junior Marjorie Gombert rank 1-2 in the 800-meters with times if 2:13.88 and 2:15.54, respectively, while Zamzam is also first in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:39.41 and second in the 5000-meters (17:50.43).
The women's 4x400-meter relay time of 3:38.12, which set a new school record at the Alabama Relays, is tops in the league, and junior Stephanie Tamgho's mark of 20-3 in the long jump ranks No. 1.
Nineteen of the team's athletes will head to Knoxville for the 41st Annual Sea Ray Relays, formerly known as the Dogwood Relays, at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
For the men, Thomas will compete in the shot put, hammer throw and discus, while freshmen William Songock and Julius Kurui will both run in the 5000-meters. Sophomore Samuel Adade and senior Orlando Reid will both run the 100- and 200-meters, and seniors Jermaine Barton and Sean Waller will both be entered in the 400-meters.
Sophomore Pete Senatus and Walker will both run in the 110-meter hurdles, while Senatus will participate in the 400-meter hurdles and Walker will compete in both the long jump and triple jump.
The men are also scheduled to run the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays.
For the Blue Raider women, freshman Brittany Cox will compete in the shot put, hammer throw and discus, while Tamgho and freshman Sarah Nambawa will both participate in the long jump and triple jump.
Senior Veronia Patterson is scheduled to run the 400-meter hurdles, and senior Shanna-Kay Campbell and sophomore TraMayne Gillyard will both compete in the 400-meters. Sophomore Erika Palmer will run in the 100-meters, and Gombert will compete in the 800-meters. Sophomore Ashley Comstock and Zamzam will both participate in the 1500-meters, as well.
The women's team is also scheduled to run the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and distance medley relays.

The remainder of the Middle Tennessee track teams will head to Nashville for the Boston-Moon Classic at Tennessee State University. Field events begin at 2 p.m. and running events start at 4 p.m.
