Blue Raiders ready for ITA Southeast Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The men's tennis team will travel to Lexington, Ky., to compete in the ITA Southeast Championships.

The Blue Raiders will begin action in the tournament on Thursday, Oct. 16 with three rounds of doubles. Singles action begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 with the round of 128 and then the round of 64 after the first round is complete. The doubles quarterfinal begins at 10 a.m. before singles play. The singles main draw of 32 begins on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. along with two rounds of singles consolation. Doubles semi-finals and singles quarterfinals begin on Sunday, Oct. 19 with the finals for both singles and doubles being play on Monday, Oct. 20. Five Blue Raiders senior Morgan Richard, junior Alex McCann and sophomores Richard Cowden, John Peers and Kyle Wishing will represent Middle Tennessee in the tournament. Only four other league players will represent the Sun Belt in the tournament, Marc Abdelnour and Daniel Vardag of Florida Atlantic and Western Kentucky's Tommy Krug and Andy True. In doubles action, Cowden and Peers will be the only team representing the Blue Raiders. Peers had a strong showing at the ITA All-American qualifying tournament and will look to improve upon his success this weekend. Cowden and McCann also represented the Blue Raiders at the ITA All-American and will use their experiences to guide them in Kentucky. Results from the tournament will be posted on www.goblueraiders.com as soon as they become available.
