MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - With an eighth-place tie in their first tournament of the year to boost their confidence, Middle Tennessee's women's golf team will compete in the Johnie Imes Invitational tournament on Monday and Tuesday at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Missouri. The University of Missouri is the host school.
The youthful Blue Raiders will be one of 18 teams in the field, which includes Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, Kansas State, Ole Miss, UALR, Iowa, Tulsa and Southern Illinois. Competition will be 18 holes each day.
Coach Chris Adams was pleased with her team's finish in last week's tournament at the University of Kentucky, especially since three of the five players were freshmen, and the other two sophomores. Indicative of their youthful talent, the Blue Raiders second round was 12 shots better than their first round, moving them up from 12th to 8th on the leader board.
Freshman Olivia Love led the Blue Raiders last week, posting a second round 70 to tie for 8th place in the tournament. Sophomore Steph Gough shot 151 to tie for 24th, while another freshman, Ashley Haggard, carded a 153 to tie for 36th. These three will all make the trip of Missouri, along with Morgan Hale and Clara Leathers who earned their spots by winning a qualifying round this week.
