Kiawah Island, S.C. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team is currently tied for ninth (out of 33) at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate after the first day of play. The Blue Raiders shot a 15-over 303 on the day at Oak Point Golf Club (5,907 yards). Middle Tennessee posted the best score of the day on the Oak Point course by 13 strokes.
Clara Leathers and Morgan Hale led the Blue Raiders through the first 18 holes, each shooting a 3-over 75 in the round.
"I'm pleased overall with our performance today," said Coach Chris Adams. " We played the toughest of the two courses today, and we plan on keeping focused over the next two days."
Leathers' round marks the second straight that she had carded 75 this weekend. Prior to Friday, the last time she had posted a low round of 75 or better was in the fall of 2008.
Olivia Love posted the second best score on the team with a 76. Fellow freshmen Stephanie Smith and Ashley Haggard shot a 77 and a 79, respectively.
The Blue Raiders will look to build off of their first round performance when they tee off tomorrow morning for day two of play. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
