MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Head coach Chris Adams and the Middle Tennessee women's golf team are looking to close out their final two tournaments of the season on a high note as the Blue Raiders head out to the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
"I think we've left some strokes out on the course this season, but we're still in pretty good shape to make a move in the rankings," Adams said. "We know that we can play better, and this is a field that will give us a chance to prove ourselves again. It's a great course, and we should have good weather each day, so I'm looking forward to it."
The Susie Maxwell Berning Classic features 15 Golfstat.com top 100 teams, including five ranked among the top 50.
If the Blue Raiders are to be successful in the event, they will likely lean on freshman standout Allie Knight. The Knoxville native has been one of the most consistent performers for the Blue Raiders this season.
"Allie has been huge for us this season," Adams said. "She really hasn't had a lot of freshman moments, but even when she has, she's bounced right back. I certainly expect a lot out of her every event."
The trio of Karisa Akin, Olivia Love and Ashley Haggard will also be making the trip for Middle Tennessee.
"At this point, the upperclassmen know what I expect out of them," Adams said. "They've been to the majority of events over the course of their career, and they saw this course when we played there last season. I think we can do well here. Karisa shot two rounds under par in qualifying, and the other two played well too. They will be going into the tournament with a lot of confidence."
Natalie Chrisopulos is set to round out the line-up for MT after an exceptionally strong qualifying performance.
"Natalie hasn't really played in team in a lot of tournaments, but she's one of the best ball-strikers on the team," Adams said. "She's playing really well right now, and I think she may only be a round or two from breaking through."
Middle Tennessee will begin play at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Sunday and the three-round event is set to conclude on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.com.
