BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Middle Tennessee defeated UAB 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in its final regular season match before the Sun Belt Championships next week. The Blue Raiders began the match by winning the doubles point and taking a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Shaun Waters and Ben Davis defeated Tom Puetz and David Zimmerman 8-5 at No. 1. At No. 3 doubles, junior Matthew Langley and r-freshman Dimitri Pippos won their match 8-2 over Daniel Moser and Lucas Dirube. In singles action, Davis defeated Zimmerman 6-4, 6-2 making it his 14th straight set win of the season. Langley defeated Puetz at No. 3 singles 6-2, 4-6 10-7 in the super tiebreaker. Pippos and Barnwell also each posted singles wins to aid the Blue Raiders. Pippos defeated Danny Manlow 6-3, 6-3 while Barnwell won his match 7-5, 6-2 over Moser. Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Wednesday, April 20 when it travels to Mobile, Ala., for the Sun Belt Championships.
