MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sophomore Ben Davis ranks among the top 125 male collegiate tennis players, as determined by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Davis was ranked No. 115 according to the 2011-12 Division I Preseason Men’s Singles Rankings.
“I’m very proud of Ben and the hard work he has put in to receive a national ranking,” head coach Jimmy Borendame said. “In just one season, he became one of our strongest competitors and I know he’ll be even tougher in the upcoming year.”
Davis was an All-Sun Belt performer last season. The London, England, native arrived on campus in January and made an immediate impact, winning seven straight matches to open play. He finished the season with a 19-5 dual match record.
In addition, three Blue Raiders will make an appearance at the 2011 ITA Men’s All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Oct. 1-9. Davis was selected for qualifying singles and will join partner Ettore Zito for qualifying doubles. Zito and Matt Langley also will participate in the prequalifying singles.
The men’s tennis team opens the fall season next weekend, hosting the Dale Short Shootout Sept. 23-25 at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. Admission is free to all tennis events throughout the season.
