MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - When the Middle Tennessee women's golf team begins play on Friday at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, head coach Chris Adams will be looking for one thing more than any other.
Consistency.
"I think we've started to scratch the potential that this team has," Adams said. "Allie has been great for us this year, especially as a freshman, but we need more consistency out of our upperclassmen in order to have a chance at these events. We've had a good round here and there, but we need to put three together as a team."
Allie Knight has been the most steady performer for the Blue Raiders thus far, picking up her first career top 10 finish at the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup last week. The Knoxville native tied for sixth in the 81-player field at six-over.
Also making the trip with Middle Tennessee will be Karisa Akin, who finished tied for first in last spring's Sun Belt Championship, Olivia Love and Ashley Haggard. The duo of Love and Haggard have been major contributors since stepping on campus in 2009. Love is coming off her best round of the season so far with a second round two-over 74 at the Cardinal Cup, and Haggard was the top Blue Raider finisher at the Dale McNamara Invitational two weeks ago, ending at 10-over.
Both Steph Gough and Natalie Chrisopulos will be making their 2011 debut this weekend. One will be competing as an individual, and the other will join the line-up.
"Both Steph and Natalie have been solid in qualifying," Adams said. "I don't know which one I'm going to go with at this point, but they've earned their spot on this trip."
Middle Tennessee will tee off on Friday morning at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
