MURFREESBORO, Tenn – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (6-14, 2-4 C-USA) suffered a 3-1 setback to UTEP (4-14, 2-5 C-USA) Sunday afternoon in Alumni Memorial Gym.

Junior Chelsea Ross led the team with 19 kills to go along with 17 digs for her ninth double-double of the season and fourth game of the year where she's recorded at least 15 kills and 15 digs.

Senior Monét Marshall tied her season-high with 16 kills with a .406 hitting percentage, her sixth time this season where's she's reached at least 10 kills with a .300 hitting clip.

Senior Ailime de Freitas easily passed her previous career-high of 30 assists on Sunday, tallying 47 of the team's 48 assists, and freshman Jacqueline Lux notched a team-best 21 digs.

UTEP started the first set with a 17-10 lead before MT pieced together a 6-2 to run to cut the deficit to three, 19-16. The Blue Raiders took advantage of two UTEP attack errors while Ross recorded a kill and an ace, and freshman LaDaisha Gillard and senior Eseta Maka got in on the action with a kill.

MT cut the UTEP lead to one, 22-21, but the Miners scored three of the next five points to capture set one, 25-23.

The Blue Raiders tied the match in the second set after finishing the frame on a 9-2 run while down,18-16, to win game two 25-20. Marshall played a pivotal role in the run as she tallied three kills and a block while sophomore Bridget Keller held serve for five of the nine points.

In the third set, the Miners went on an 8-0 run with a 15-14 advantage to stretch the lead to eight, 23-14, and eventually won game three 25-18.

The Miners stormed out to a 15-3 lead in the fourth set and never looked back, posting a 25-13 set victory and winning the match.

The Blue Raiders will start a four-game road trip on Tuesday when they head to Birmingham, Ala., for a 6 p.m., affair against UAB.
