BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Blue Raider volleyball team (6-15, 2-5 C-USA) suffered a 3-0 loss to UAB (5-17, 2-5 C-USA) Tuesday evening at Bartow Arena.

Junior Chelsea Ross and senior Monét Marshall combined for 21 of the team's 31 kills while Ross' team-high 11 kills puts her into sixth all-time in program history with 1,228 kills, passing Ashley Mead (2006-09).Senior Ailime de Freitas paced MT with 14 assists and freshman Jacqueline Lux notched 11 digs.

MT started the first set with a 5-3 lead after freshman Haley Morton found Ross for a kill. However, the Blazers went on a 6-1 run to take a commanding 9-6 lead. Marshall and senior Eseta Maka's combined block brought MT to within one, 10-9, but UAB scored 15 of the next 19 points to capture set one 25-13.

Set two started out as a back and forth affair before the Blazers put together a 7-2 run while tied, 12-12, to go up 19-14. UAB kept MT from getting anything going while winning game two, 25-19, and taking a 2-0 lead.

Much like the previous stanza, both teams started going back and forth before MT took a 15-12 lead after an ace and a kill by Ross, and a kill from Marshall. UAB went on a 4-1 spurt to tie the set, 16-16, while sophomore Miri Shade gave the Blue Raiders a 17-16 advantage in the ensuing rally.

That would be the last lead MT would have however as the Blazers outscored the Blue Raiders 9-6 the rest of the way to win the set, 25-22, and the match.

MT will continue its road trip this weekend when they play FIU on Friday at 7 p.m., before an early morning match on Sunday against Florida Atlantic at 11 a.m.
