MT Heads to Sunshine State for Pair of C-USA Matches

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (6-15, 2-5 C-USA) will continue its road trip this weekend with a visit to Miami, Fla., for a 5 p.m., match against FIU before heading to Boca Raton for an 11 a.m., match on Sunday against Florida Atlantic.

About the Blue Raiders
Tuesday Recap
The Blue Raiders suffered a 3-0 loss to UAB in Bartow Arena Tuesday evening. Junior Chelsea Ross paced MT with 11 kills and passed Ashley Mead (2006-09) for sixth all-time in program history with 1,228 kills and counting.
Outside Looking In
With last night's setback to UAB, the Blue Raiders are on the outside looking in with a 2-5 record in C-USA play and tied for ninth with UAB and UTEP. However, MT is just a game back of North Texas (3-4) for the eighth spot and 1.5 games separates the current sixth seed (Marshall) and the Blue Raiders.
Sunshine Success
MT has found success against both Florida schools under head coach Matt Peck. In 10 years at the helm, the Blue Raiders have a combined record of 32-6 (.820), including a 16-1 record against Florida Atlantic, his best record against any opponent in C-USA.

MT is led by Jacqueline Lux at libero while the Shelbyville, Ind., native is leading the team with 305 digs and is the only freshman in the conference to be ranked in the top ten in digs. The Blue Raiders are averaging 2.26 blocks per set as senior Monét Marshall leads the squad in the category.

Scouting FIU (6-13, 3-3 C-USA)
The Panthers have won their past three conference matches against UAB and two road sweeps over Charlotte and Louisiana. FIU is 1-2 at home this season with its only win coming against the Blazers. FIU is led by second-year head coach Rita Buckett-Crockett, who led the Panthers to a 13-17 season in her first year on the sidelines. Lucio Castro paces the team with 207 kills and 196 digs while Anabela Sataric leads FIU wih 458 assists (7.90 a/set), and Gloria Levorin has a team-best 66 blocks.

FAU has won three of its previous four contests in conference play with the only defeat coming to Western Kentucky in three sets. The Owls will play Southern Miss at home tonight before facing the Blue Raiders on Sunday. FAU is outhitting its opponents this season .228-161 while Brittney Brown leads the team with 190 kills and teammate Katarina Stepanovic is pacing the team with a .410 hitting percentage. Genesis Viera has notched a team-best 680 assists and Liene Mellupe is leading the way with 230 digs.
