Volleyball to Host UTSA and La Tech

MURFREESOBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raider volleyball team (5-10, 1-1 C-USA) will host a pair of Conference USA matches at Alumni Memorial Gym this weekend with a 7 p.m., match on Friday against UTSA before welcoming Louisiana Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.

About the Blue Raiders
Last Time Out
MT finished 1-1 last week while starting conference play in the process. The Blue Raiders fell in five sets to Marshall before recording their first conference win against Southern Miss at home on Sunday. Monét Marshall paced the team with a season-high 16 kills to go along with seven blocks, equaling 22 points. Marshall's .682 hitting percentage was also a career-high.
Marshall Mania
Marshall has stepped up her play as of late while hitting at an impressive clip of .571 in the previous three matches. The senior is also averaging 4.5 blocks per match in past three contests. In 12 matches played this season, she's notched at least 10 kills and five blocks in four matches and the team is 3-1 in those matches. The Memphis, Tenn., is also fourth in the conference in blocks per set at 1.08 per set.
C-USA Homestand
Sunday's victory over Southern Miss was the start of five-straight conference home matches and five of the next six matches overall at Alumni Memorial Gym. MT will play two teams that were projected to finish in the top three at the beginning of the season, including UTSA, who won last year's conference championship.
Moving up the leaderboard
Junior Chelsea Ross' season-high 27 kills on Sunday gave her 1,118 career kills, and passed Lisa White for eighth all-time in program history. Ross is 31 kills from passing Tara Miller to move into seventh place all-time.
What to Watch for
In the Blue Raiders' five victories this season, they have hit 15 points higher than their season average (.170) with a .185 hitting clip, while allowing opponents to hit at a .131 clip, which is 73 points better than the .204 opponents have been hitting this season.
About the Opponents
Scouting UTSA (7-7, 3-0 C-USA)
The reigning conference champs have played well after starting the season out slow with a 2-6 start. UTSA has reeled off five victories in its last six matches, including a 3-0 start in Conference USA action. The Roadrunners boast a young roster that has just two seniors on the team. UTSA is led by Dempsey Thornton and Dajana Boskovic, who are second and third in the conference with a 4.60 and 4.50 kill per set, respectively. Jessica Waldrip leads the conference with 137 assists while averaging 13.70 assists per set.

MT will look to take advantage of a La Tech team that is just 1-4 on the road while winning just one set away from its home court. The Bulldogs have yet to win a set in conference play as they recently lost in straight sets to UAB. The Bulldogs are hitting .171 this season while Rebecca Redgen is leading the team with 171 kills while Brooke Short paces the team with 181 assists. Defensively, Alejandra Aviles has amassed a team-best 183 digs and Dalane Guidry has a team-high 50 blocks.

The Blue Raiders have had the upper hand in the series with a 3-1 record all-time against the Roadrunners. Last season, MT was the only team in the conference to beat UTSA, and did it in sweeping fashion at Alumni Memorial Gym.
