MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team ran away with the team and individual titles at the Blue Raider Invitational Tuesday at Old Fort Golf Club. The Blue Raiders fired a four-under par 284 to capture their third title in four years at the home event, finishing 22 strokes ahead of the second-place team with an overall score of 873 (+9). MT also placed four individuals among the top-five finishers.
Emily Miller claimed her first individual championship in dramatic fashion by sinking a 30-foot putt on the 15th hole in a playoff against teammate Avery George. Both paced MT by carding 217 (+1). Miller posted a tournament-low 69 (-3) in the final round and tied for the most birdies with 10 total over 54 holes. She became the first Raider to earn low-medalist honors in any event this fall. George closed out the final 18 at two-under par 70.
"I'm extremely proud of the way our team played today," said head coach Chris Adams. "We got stronger as the tournament went on and Emily and Avery played exceptionally well. It turned out to be a great event with great weather and I thought all of the teams played well."
Allie Knight held steady with her third-consecutive round at one-over par 73, finishing fourth overall at 219. Emily Williams competed well as in individual, recording a fifth-place finish after a final round 71 (-1). Rounding out the MT lineup were Maddie Dention (T-20th) and Samantha Gotcher (T-32nd) with final rounds at 72 and 78, respectively.
Also representing the Blue Raiders as individual competitors were Haley Cothran (249) and Lacie York (252).
Oral Roberts produced the second-lowest score at 895 (+31), while slipping past Arkansas-Little Rock (+32) by one stroke. Tennessee Tech's total mark of 906 (+42) was good enough for fourth place, as Missouri State closed out the top five with a combined 910 (+46).
Tennessee Tech's Megan Williamson finished in third place, just one stroke behind Miller and George at two-over par 218.
The tournament victory concludes the fall portion of MT's schedule as the Blue Raiders start preparations for the upcoming spring.
