MT T&F to Compete in War Eagle Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee track & field teams will compete in the War Eagle Invitational April 18-19 in Auburn, Ala.
The War Eagle Invite marks the second time in 2014 that MT has competed on Auburn University's Hutsell-Rosen Track, competing in the Tiger Track Classic April 4-5. The invite starts Friday at 2 p.m. with the men's hammer throw, the triple jump, javelin, 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter. On Saturday, field events start with the pole vault at 11 a.m., while track events start at noon. The meet will conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 6 p.m.
At the Tiger Track Classic April 4-5, Eliud Rutto and Emmanuel Tugumisirize each captured an individual title. Rutto won the 1,500-meter (3:44.82), while Tugumisirize won the 400-meter (46.21). Rutto is slated to run in the 800 Saturday.
In the Tennessee Relays April 11-12, Tugumisirize added a second-place finish in the 400 with a season-best 45.91 seconds. He, Rutto, Andre Hamilton and Steven Palmer raced to a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:06.83). Tugumisirize is scheduled to run in the 400 and 200-meter.
For the women's squad, Pershawna Williams, India Hammond and Barbara Vilson are slated to compete in the triple jump. Hammond jumped a personal-best in the triple jump at the Tennessee Relays, placing second with a distance of 12.83-meters, while Williams added a career-best 12.23-meters for seventh. Vilson and Williams also are slated to compete in the high jump Saturday. Williams cleared a career-best 1.75-meters in the high jump last weekend for forth.
