Raiders to compete at Percy Warner Park

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off a strong performance last Saturday in the UTC PowerAde Invitational, the Middle Tennessee cross country teams are slated to compete in the Commodore Classic at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tennessee Saturday morning. The men's team will compete in their first 8K race of the year at 9 a.m., with the women to follow with a 5K at 10 a.m.
In the field along with the Blue Raiders are Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Belmont, Central Arkansas, Chattanooga, Davidson, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Samford, TSU, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt and WKU.
At the PowerAde Invitational last week, the MT men swept the top-three spots in the 5K race, but did not earn a team score in the dual-meet race. Geoffry Cheruiyot picked up his first individual title in his first career Middle Tennessee race, completing the 5K race in 14:51.86. Hillary Rono and Amos Cheruiyot finished second and third, respectively, marking back-to-back weeks that Rono captured the runner-up spot.
The Blue Raiders women's squad also had three finish in the top-10 at UTC last week. In the two-mile race, Rhema Cheruiyot led the Blue Raiders with a sixth-place finish. Gladys David and Hannah Maina rounded out the group, finishing ninth and tenth, respectively.
