BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Middle Tennessee track & field teams finished their first meet of the season at Birmingham Saturday, producing their top performances of the day in the mile at the UAB Blazer Invitational.
"We had some pretty good events, specifically the mile," said head coach Dean Hayes "The men had a great performance in the mile with Geoffry (Cheruyiot) winning and Hillary (Rono) placing second. The women also had a strong showing."
Geoffry Cheruiyot notched his first victory on the track as a Blue Raider, finishing the mile in 4:12.99, while Hillary Rono set a personal-best with his 4:13.63 performance for second.
For the women, Hannah Maina collected fourth in the mile (4:59.84) with Jackline Kiprono (5:01.10) and Rhema Cheruiyot (5:09.72) finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
"It really is a good meet after coming off a long Christmas vacation," Hayes said. "We were able to do some good things and are starting to get back to where we need to be."
