Roadrunners rally too much for MT

MT falls 69-58 on the road at UTSA
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Middle Tennessee (12-9, 5-3 C-USA) fell on the road 69-58 to UTSA (10-9, 4-4 C-USA) in the Blue Raiders first ever game in the UTSA Convocation Center.
The Blue Raiders had their 13th different look to start the game this season as Jacob Ivory snagged his second start of the year.
The Roadrunners led by as many as seven in the first half with guard Ryan Bowie hitting four three-pointers early in the game.
The Blue Raiders closed the first half with a strong 15-1 run to hold a 38-31 lead heading into the locker room. Perrin Buford recorded 12 points in the first half alone, securing his third double digit outing of the season in the first 20 minutes.
A scoring drought for the Blue Raiders to start the second half found the game tied at 40 as the battle ensued.
The game was a series of runs and droughts on both sides with 11 lead changes.
The Blue Raiders went 0-for-9 late in the second half that led to the Roadrunners taking a 10 point lead with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
"We were totally dominated in the second half," Head Coach Kermit Davis said. "It's kind of how we looked in November during the second half. We settled for way too many threes and couldn't make any two-footers. I take total responsibility but it was right on our returning players. They were not big enough factors in the game."
Middle Tennessee would end the game with three players scoring in double figures with Darnell Harris and Buford registering 15 points and Reggie Upshaw with 11 points. Buford neared a double-double with nine boards, while Upshaw grabbed eight. The Blue Raiders out-rebounded the Roadrunners 40-32 and out-scored their bench 29-7.
Middle Tennessee will continue its road swing on Jan. 31 with a game at UTEP. Tip-off against the Miners is set for 8 p.m. CT.
