Women's Tennis Secures 7-0 win
ATLANTA, Ga. – Middle Tennessee capped off a great weekend with a 7-0 win against Florida Gulf Coast here Saturday to improve to 5-2.
The Blue Raiders secured the shutout after turning back No. 67-ranked Georgia State Friday night.
Middle Tennessee swept the singles matches after securing the doubles point. In fact, the Blue Raiders won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Tiffany William continued her outstanding season with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Sarah Means at No. 1 singles. Darya Shulzhanok continued her run with a 6-3, 7-6 (0) win against Elizabeth Means at No. 2 singles.
Jesse Grace had a competitive three-set match against Breana Stampfli. Grace dropped the first set 0-6 but rallied to capture the second and third sets, 6-2, respectively, and earn the win.
Giulia Squadrin captured a 6-4, 6-2 win against Johanna Sterkel at No. 4, followed by Brittany Huxley earning a 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Candela Munoz Giron at No. 5. Nayara Moraes cruised to a 7-5, 6-1 win against Julianna Curtis at No. 6 singles.
Middle Tennessee earned the doubles point by virtue of wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Middle Tennessee was winning the No. 1 doubles match but it went unfinished after the Blue Raiders captured the point by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Huxley and Moraes teamed to take down Stampfli and Sterkel, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles. Squadrin and Grace defeated Alex Landert and Curtis, 6-1, at No. 3. William and Shulzhanok were winning at No. 1 doubles when the match was called.
Middle Tennessee will return to action when it plays host to UT-Martin and Tennessee State Saturday.
