MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's and women's track & field teams start off 2015 in a nearby destination, traveling to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the UAB Blazer Invitational Jan. 9-10. The two-day event is held at the Birmingham CrossPlex, which is also the site for the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
The Blue Raiders will face off against 26 other teams, including C-USA foes Louisiana Tech, UAB and Florida International. The Florida Gators also are slated to compete in the meet and come in ranked No. 1 by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in both the men's and women's rankings.
The Blazer Invitational will be the third meet of the indoor season for Middle Tennessee, who hosted the Christmas Invitational Dec. 6. The Blue Raiders claimed 12 first place finishes at the Christmas Invite, including 2014 NCAA Indoor Championship India Hammond participant earning the top spot in the long jump and triple jump.
Running events start Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdle preliminaries and the field events are slated to open slightly earlier at 12:30 p.m. with the men's weight throw.
