MT to Travel to Texas for Pair of C-USA Games

MT will face NT on Oct. 16, Rice on Oct. 18
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After splitting a pair of conference games at home this past weekend, the Middle Tennessee soccer team will travel to Texas for matchups at North Texas (Oct. 16) and Rice (Oct. 18).
The Blue Raiders (8-4-1, 4-1-0 C-USA) defeated archrival Western Kentucky, 2-0, last Friday night, but fell to Marshall, 3-2, on Sunday.
Freshman Morgan Mauck and senior Tori Hawkins each scored a goal in both games and Kelsey Brouwer made 13 saves, including a season-high eight against the Thundering Herd.
The win against WKU was the first for the team since 2010 while the loss to Marshall was the squad's first in conference and at home this season.
The Mean Green enter the weekend at 12-2-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference. The squad has also won its last four games including last Sunday's, 2-0, victory at Old Dominion.
NT is second in C-USA in goals with 27 and are tops in the league in goals allowed with six.
Friday's showdown will be a matchup of the two top teams in C-USA as NT is ranked first in the league with 13 points, while MT has 12.
Rice will square off with UAB on Friday before playing MT, but the Owls currently sit at 8-5-1, 4-2-0 in C-USA. They are also on a two-game winning streak having defeated Old Dominion, 2-0, and Charlotte, 2-1.
The Owls are fourth in the conference in goals with 26, but their 22 goals allowed rank them 10th.
Kickoff for MT's game at NT on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the Blue Raiders and Owls will begin their match at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Blue Raider Bullets:
· Senior Grace Summers scored the opening goal of the season at Tennessee Tech on Aug. 23 and again on Sept. 25 against Southern Miss. She led the Blue Raiders in points in 2014 with 14.
· Defender Emily Jorgenson leads the Blue Raiders in goals with three. The senior has scored against Western Carolina (Aug. 30), Lipscomb (Sept. 10) and UAB (Sept. 27).
· Middle Tennessee is on pace to give up the fewest amount of goals in a season in school history. MT is only allowing 0.85 scores per game, which would equate to 15.3 in the regular season. The record for fewest goals given up is 19 in 2013.
· The Blue Raiders notched seven shutouts during the first 14 games of the season. The school record for most clean sheets is nine in 2003 and 2011.
· Middle Tennessee is averaging 1.08 goals per game this season. 2014 marked the lowest goals per game output of the Rhoden era at 1.0.
· MT is outshooting opponents, 186-159 this season, 103-78 after halftime.
· Middle Tennessee has scored the 10th fewest goals in C-USA this season (14), but is tied for second in goals allowed (10).
· Kelsey Brouwer on the all-time MT lists: 280 saves (2nd), 31 wins (2nd), 24 shutouts (1st). With a win this weekend, she would move into a tie for first with Rebecca Cushing (2009-11).
