All Nine Seniors Will Be Honored After the Game
MURFREESBORO – The nine Middle Tennessee soccer seniors will play in their final home game when the team hosts LA Tech on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.
The Blue Raiders enter Sunday's contest sporting an 8-5-2 record overall, and a 4-2-1 mark in C-USA play. The squad played league foe Rice to a, 0-0, tie in the last outing on Oct. 18.
Senior Tori Hawkins is hitting her stride at the right time of the season and the midfielder has been credited with three goals in the last four matches.
Fellow fourth-year Kelsey Brouwer has been equally impressive at her position in the net and has posted a shutout in the three of the last five. Against the Owls, Brouwer notched a season-best 13 saves and shut down an attack that had been averaging 1.87 goals prior to the match.
LA Tech is coming off of a two-game winning streak, which has vaulted the team to an 11-7 record, 4-4 in C-USA matches.
The Techsters defeated UTEP, 2-0, on Oct. 16 and UTSA by the same score two days later. Kathryn Sloan netted both game-winners against the Miners and Roadrunners and Makenna Johnson earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week for helping produce two clean sheets.
Blue Raider Bullets:
· Senior Grace Summers scored the opening goal of the season at Tennessee Tech on Aug. 23 and again on Sept. 25 against Southern Miss. She led the Blue Raiders in points in 2014 with 14.
· Defender Emily Jorgenson is tied for the team lead in goals with three. The senior has scored against Western Carolina (Aug. 30), Lipscomb (Sept. 10) and UAB (Sept. 27).
· Middle Tennessee is on pace to give up the fewest amount of goals in a season in school history. MT is only allowing 0.87 scores per game, which would equate to just over 15 in the regular season. The record for fewest goals given up is 19 in 2013.
· The Blue Raiders have notched eight shutouts during the first 16 games of the season. The school record for most clean sheets is nine in 2003 and 2011.
· Middle Tennessee is averaging 1.00 goals per game this season. 2014 marked the lowest goals per game output of the Rhoden era at 1.0.
· Middle Tennessee has scored the 11th fewest goals in C-USA this season (15), but is tied for second in goals allowed (13).
· Kelsey Brouwer on the all-time MT lists: 299 saves (2nd), 31 wins (2nd), 25 shutouts (1st). With a win this weekend, she would move into a tie for first with Rebecca Cushing (2009-11).
· If the season ended today, Brouwer's .863 save percentage would be second-best in school history.
· At 4-2-1, the Blue Raiders are ranked seventh in C-USA out of 14 teams.
· 18 players have attempted shots on the year and 16 have had at least one shot on goal.
· Kelsey Brouwer and Emily Jorgenson were named Conference USA Goalkeeper and Defender of the Week, respectively, on Aug. 31.
· Brouwer was named Conference USA Goalkeeper of Week again on Oct. 5.
· MT's 4-1 start was the best for the team since 2006's 5-0 start.
· The Blue Raiders had four shutouts through their first five games for the first time in school history.
· The Blue Raiders' Oct. 2 match at Old Dominion was postponed to Nov. 1 because of weather.
· LA Tech and Middle Tennessee have split the all-time series, 1-1, with the road team winning each time.
