MT earned a point in 0-0 tie with LA Tech
MURFREESBORO – The Middle Tennessee soccer team tied a school record with its ninth shutout of the season in a, 0-0, tie against LA Tech at home on Sunday afternoon.
"I thought we could have done a better job about finishing our opportunities because we certainly got them," head coach Aston Rhoden said. "But this is a game that we will look back on and try to look back at and try to clean some things up offensively."
The Blue Raiders (8-5-3, 4-2-2 C-USA) started slow and took just four shots during the opening half. The squad ramped up the attack following the intermission and crafted 14 attacks for the remainder of the game.
The best chance for MT came in the second period when Tori Hawkins drove a ball into the box on a low line drive. Angie Lai made a run and just narrowly missed putting a touch on the pass as the ball sailed wide of the goal.
Senior Kelsey Brouwer, who was playing in her final home game, notched another clean sheet by making five saves including one in double overtime. With her performance, she became just the second keeper in school history with 300 career saves.
Fellow fourth-year Grace Summers led the team with four shots, one on goal, and Morgan Mauck and Lai had three strikes apiece.
LA Tech (11-7-1, 4-4-1 C-USA) took 13 shots in the game and goalkeeper Kylee Seto matched Brouwer's effort with five stops.
The Blue Raiders will hit the road for their final two matches of the regular season and will travel to UTEP on Oct. 30. The team will also make up a game at Old Dominion on Nov. 1.
