MT will play at UTEP and at ODU
MURFREESBORO – The Middle Tennessee soccer team will hit the road this weekend for the final regular season games of the year. The Blue Raiders will play at UTEP on Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. and then at Old Dominion on Nov. 1 at 12 p.m.
Entering Friday night's match, MT is tied for sixth in C-USA with 14 points. Middle Tennessee would secure a spot in the eight-team conference tournament with one win on the weekend.
MT (8-5-3, 4-2-2 C-USA) has hit a rough patch offensively and has scored just one goal in the last three matches. The lone score came off the head of Tori Hawkins against North Texas on Oct. 16.
On the flipside, the Blue Raider defense has posted back-to-back shutouts for the fourth time this season in 0-0 ties to both Rice and LA Tech. The unit has not allowed a goal for 282 minutes, the second-longest streak of the season and fifth-longest in school history.
Kerri Cook, Emily Jorgenson, Sydney Navarro and Kathy Thomas have performed well as MT's back line and only allowed the Lady Techsters to take 13 shots in 110 minutes during MT's last game.
However, goalkeeper Kelsey Brouwer has been lights out recently and during the entire season. The Franklin, Tenn. native has recorded the most shutouts in a season (nine) and her .870 save percentage is currently the second-highest in school history.
UTEP enters the weekend with an 11-6-2 record and tied for seventh in the C-USA standings with a 4-3-2 league mark. The Miners defeated ODU, 3-0, in their last contest.
UTEP is second in the conference in points with 100 and ranks sixth with a 1.21 goals allowed per game average.
For Old Dominion, the Monarchs sit at 7-10-0 overall and 5-3-0 in C-USA games. ODU is 3-1 in its last four games.
The Monarchs currently rank 10th in the conference in goals scored (19) and goals allowed (27), but are ranked fifth in the standings.
The MT-ODU matchup was originally scheduled for Oct. 2, but the game was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
