Second half shooting dooms MT on the road

Blue Raiders fall to North Texas 57-56
DENTON, Texas – It was the tale of two halves as Middle Tennessee was unable to overcome a difficult second half, falling 57-56 to North Texas on the road.
The Blue Raiders are now 13-13 on the season and 6-7 in Conference USA play.
Marcus Tarrance started strong for MT with seven points in the first four minutes to push Middle Tennessee to an early 10-4 lead.
MT used an early 7-0 run to set the tone in the first six minutes and widened the gap with a 6-0 run in the final minute of the first half.
The Blue Raiders had a strong shooting first half as the team went 64 percent from the field compared to UNT's 27 percent shooting to stick a 37-18 lead by halftime. MT went 4-of-8 from three point range in the half with Giddy Potts, Perrin Buford, Darnell Harris and Tarrance all draining a trey by halftime.
The Blue Raiders were up by as many as 21 points before shooting went cold for a period in the second half as MT went 2-for-10 from the field in a 10 minute span.
North Texas was finally able to get within single digits with eight minutes remaining in the game after MT suffered a four minute scoring drought to make the score 48-39 in favor of the Blue Raiders.
The Blue Raiders were stuck on 48 points for over seven minutes before Jacob Ivory sunk two free-throws to break the 50 point mark in the game.
UNT grabbed the lead for the first time since the first field goal of the game with 16 seconds left on the clock as it went up 55-54.
Middle Tennessee only landed one field goal in the final 11 minutes of play when Reggie Upshaw put away the go-ahead bucket with six seconds left on the clock as MT led 56-55. The quick transition back to defense hurt the Blue Raiders ultimately as Ivory committed a foul with two seconds left. The Mean Green made both free-throws to win the game 57-56.
The Blue Raiders closed the game only shooting 22.7 percent in the second half and 20 percent from three-point range.
MT was stronger in the paint tonight with 26 points in the paint to the Mean Green's 18.
Upshaw led the team in scoring with 12 points and in rebounding with nine boards, while Tarrance added 11 points for MT.
The Blue Raiders return to the Murphy Center for their final home stand of the season with Marshall on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. and WKU on Feb. 22 at noon.
