Okot lone Blue Raider to hold top spot
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – As the indoor track & field seasons come to a close, the Middle Tennessee track & field teams travel to a familiar venue – The Birmingham CrossPlex – for the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships Thursday.
The Blue Raiders competed at the CrossPlex on two separate occasions this season and this year's indoor championship marks the fourth-consecutive time that the Blazers have hosted the event at the CrossPlex.
Entering the meet, Vincent Okot is the lone Blue Raider to hold a top spot in the Conference USA rankings. Okot jumped a personal-best 15.65-meters this season and holds a .30 meter advantage over Venatavius Sears from WKU.
In addition to Okot, Tahir Walsh, Hillary Rono and Atsu Nyamadi each are ranked in the top three in their respective events. Rono enters the championship third in the 800 meter with his 1:52.06 performance, while Walsh is tied for third in the 60-meter dash (6.80) and Nyamadi in the long jump (7.34m).
India Hammond and Shaina Johnson are two more Blue Raiders that have aspirations to place at the C-USA Championship. Johnson holds second in the 800 (2:14.54), while 2014 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship participant Hammond ranks second in the triple jump (12.78m).
Hannah Maina become only the second Middle Tennessee women's cross country runner to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships during the fall season and currently holds the indoor Middle Tennessee 3,000 meter record. Maina ranks third in the 3,000 and set the school's best-time at Vanderbilt with her 9:36.82 performance.
The championship will begin at 10 a.m. and live results will be available at FlashResultsTexas.com or by clicking the link here.
