Final Results
KANE'OHE, Hawaii - Middle Tennessee jumped one spot in the standings after shooting a tournament-low 294 on the final day at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Wednesday. The No. 56 Blue Raiders shot a three-round total 890 (301-295-294) and finished third overall for their first top-five finish of the spring.
"The girls played great, we talked about 'winning the day' again and they went out and tied for the lowest round of the day," head coach Chris Adams said. "When you have three players with rounds under par, you're going to be competitive. It was great for us to play side-by-side with a couple top-15 programs."
A pair of MT juniors finished among the top-10 individuals to lead the way. Avery George tied for eighth after a steady round of 75 (+3) and finished one-over after 56 holes. Emily Miller shot her best round on the final day with a 70 (-2), tying for 10th place while finishing two-over for the tournament.
Senior Allie Knight bounced back and delivered a final round of 71 (-1) to finish tied for 17th overall (+9).
Junior Maddie Denton finished 37th overall and sophomore Samantha Gotcher was tied for 46th to round out the MT lineup.
"Overall, a great tournament by the entire team and a wonderful opportunity to be able to do it in such an awesome place," Adams said.
No. 13 Oklahoma State (862) won the Donnis Thompson team title for the fourth time, while No. 15 Texas A&M finished eight strokes behind for runner-up. Texas A&M's Marijosse Navarro captured low-medalist honors after shooting three-under (213).
The Blue Raiders leaped No. 26 Baylor over the final 18, finishing two strokes ahead of the Bears.
Middle Tennessee will have a week off before returning to action on Sunday, March 29, when it travels to Stockbridge, Ga. for the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate.
