Blue Raiders put up tough fight vs No. 39 IU

Hoosiers come away with 4-3 victory
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Middle Tennessee put up a strong fight in its final match in the Hilton San Diego Mission Classic but narrowly fell 4-3 to ranked for Indiana on Saturday.
The Hoosiers, who are ranked 39th nationally came into the match with a 10-7 record.
Doubles play set the intensity early with all three matches going deep. Gian Issa and Yannick Born competed in the No. 1 doubles spot and fell 6-7 (5) in a back and forth match. Ben Davis and and Ettore Zito helped push doubles play on as they collected a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position.
IU clinched the doubles point to go up 1-0 after another tightly contested match from Robin Riethmueller and Miguel Negre Fernandez. The duo fought on but fell 6-4 on the third court.
In singles play Born took his match at the No. 2 court in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, while Issa also picked up a straight set victory at the No. 5 spot with a 6-4, 6-2 win for the Blue Raiders.
Riethmueller played at the No. 6 position and dropped the first set 4-6 but battled back strong in a gripping match to take the next two sets and the point 7-5, 7-6 (6).
Zito went down after losing the first set 6-4, but continued on to steal the second set on the top court 7-6. The Hoosiers took the point as Monette landed a 7-5 win in the final set.
The Blue Raiders would not let IU take any easy points as Dima Zymantovich took the match to three sets at the No. 3 spot. Indiana snagged the point with 7-5,4-6, 6-1 win as the match was tied at three points a piece.
Negre Fernandez competed at the No. 4 spot in an explosive match with IU's Lalic taking the set 7-6. Negre Fernandez was relentless to grab the second set 6-4 but was unable to close the match as he fell 6-1 in the final set to give Indiana the 4-3 win.
"I personally shoulder today's loss for the team," Head Coach Jimmy Borendame said. "I will do better in the future."
The Blue Raiders return to action as they host the MT Shootout starting on Friday, March 27th.
