Five Raiders Among Top 10
FINAL TEAM STANDINGS | FINAL INDIVIDUAL STANDINGS
KANSAS CITY - Middle Tennessee continued its historic season by sweeping the individual and team titles at the Kansas City Shootout presented by Gary Crossley Ford on Tuesday. Senior Allie Knight earned low-medalist after edging out sophomore Samantha Gotcher on a second playoff hole after both finished atop the player leaderboard at 1-over. MT had five finish among the top 10 in the team's first title of the spring, as the Raiders posted a 292 in each round to claim a convincing 34-stroke victory.
MT's tournament total of 876 is the fourth best three-round total in program history. All four of the top three-round tournament scores have been recorded this year.
"I'm extremely proud of the dominating win today," head coach Chris Adams said. "Everyone played well and placing five players in the top 10 gives us a lot of confidence going into the conference championships."
Knight and Gotcher each tied their career-low marks with rounds of 69 and 71, respectively, to cap the tournament with a total of 217. Knight (76-72-69) started off hot, carding four birdies in the early going while totaling six on the day to claim her first individual title. Competing as an individual, Gotcher (71-75-71) came through with four birdies on the final day and registered her best finish as a Blue Raider.
Juniors Avery George (73-70-75; 218), Emily Williams (73-75-71; 219) and Emily Miller (70-75-79; 224) also had strong showings to finish in the top 10.
George was right on the heels of Knight and Gotcher, finishing tied for third with two birdies in the third round. Williams was inserted into the lineup for the first time this spring and did not disappoint. She birdied twice while providing a steady 1-under performance to finish tied for fifth. Miller ended up tied for seventh.
Rounding out the lineup was junior Maddie Denton who finished among the top 25 with a three-round total of 231. Denton posted a round of 77 on Tuesday, placing her in a tie for 22nd place.
With a third place, second place and now first place finish in the last three tournaments, Adams has the Blue Raiders peaking at the right time. MT will have a week off before heading down to Fort Myers, Florida for the Conference USA Championships on April 20-22.
