Named defensive player of the week
DALLAS – Conference USA announced its football players of the week on Monday and Middle Tennessee's Jeremy Cutrer earned the defensive honor.
Cutrer had a nose for the ball in Middle Tennessee's 73-14 win over Charlotte on Saturday night. The Kentwood, La., product intercepted two passes, recovered a fumble and recorded a pair of pass breakups.
Cutrer returned his two picks for a total of 36 yards and his three takeaways led to 17 points for the Blue Raiders. His play anchored a unit that only allowed 219 yards and forced seven turnovers.
Curter has three interceptions in his last two games and shares the national lead in passes defended at 2.7 per game.
This marks the 57th conference player of the week under Rick Stockstill with 15 coming on offense, 23 on defense, and 19 on special teams.
