Four Raiders in top16 at the All There August Challenge
Final Results
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Four Blue Raiders finished the All There August Challenge inside the top 16 Monday, but tough hole locations combined with windy conditions led Middle Tennessee to a second-place finish after leading throughout most of the first two rounds.
Middle Tennessee shot 21-over par on the final day to finish at 31-over (292-286-305=883). The Blue Raiders were not the only team to struggle through the final round, being surpassed only by Sam Houston State who finished 26-over to win the team title (297-285-296=878).
"The scores were definitely higher today, but we just came out of the blocks bad and couldn't recover," head coach Chris Adams said. "We made too many big numbers today as a whole but we will get better and learn from our mistakes. This team is hungry for success and I know they are not happy about today."
The Raiders finished tied for second with Long Beach State (300-287-296=883) and four strokes ahead of Conference USA challenger UTSA (301-285-301=887).
Avery George shot five-over par on the day, finishing the tournament tied for sixth place at six-over par (74-69-76=219) and collecting her third top 10 finish of her senior campaign.
Samantha Gotcher and Hanley Long both finished in a tie for 13th place at 10-over par. Gotcher (74-72-77=223) shot six-over par in round three while Long (73-75-75=223) had the best round of the day for MT at four-over par.
Jenna Burris joined the aforementioned Blue Raiders in the top 20, carding a final round six-over par on her way to a three-round total of 11-over par (77-70-77=224), good for a share of 16th place.
Maddie Denton rounded out the Blue Raiders lineup in a tie for 62nd with a score of 27-over par (71-89-80=240) after shooting nine-over in the final round of the competition.
George was one of the leaders in the field in both par 3 scoring (+1) and par 5 scoring (E) while Gotcher was near the top of the field of 78 in par 4 scoring (+1).
George also led the entire field in birdies across the three-round event with 11. Burris carded the most pars for the Blue Raiders with 38 in 54 holes of play.
Middle Tennessee has a little over a month to prepare for their next event as they travel to Tucson, Ariz. for the Mountain View Collegiate held March 18-19 at Mountain View Country Club.
