Raiders open season at Alabama

Ampomah earns javelin facility record
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After weather canceled the first day of the Alabama Relays, the Middle Tennessee track & field teams opened the outdoor season with four first-place finishes at Sam Bailey Track & Field Stadium.
John Ampomah, the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships runner-up in the javelin, finished first in the javelin with his 76.97-meter (252-6) toss. Ampomah also set the javelin distance record for Sam Bailey Track & Field Stadium.
Sampson Laari claimed first in the 800 meter for the Blue Raiders, finishing in a personal-best 1:49.78.
The Blue Raider men also excelled in the relay events, capturing first in the distance medley and 4x400-meter relays.
The team of Adeniji Adedamola, Ifiok Umoh, Hillary Rono and Laari finished in 3:18.14 to earn first in the 4x400-meter relay, while Alden Dixon, Umoh, Rono and Geoffry Cheruiyot finished in 10:02.52 to claim the top spot in the distance medley relay.
On the women's side, Elizabeth Dadzie earned the best finish for MT in the women's long jump. Dadzie jumped 6.10 meters (20-0) to place first, while Hammond leaped 5.84 meters (19-2) for seventh.
Dadzie also earned the best finish in the 100 meter for MT, finishing sixth with a time of 13.92.
Much like the men, the women competed in the relays. The women's distance medley relay team of Rhema Cheruiyot, Shaina Johnson, Susan Aneno and Agnes Abu finished fourth in 12:06.65.
Middle Tennessee is slated to continue competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Saturday March 26.
