Griffith homers, but Raiders drop DH to Charlotte

Raiders fall 9-5 and 5-1 to the 49ers, lose seventh in a row
Both games began well for the Raiders as they took a 3-2 lead after the first inning in game one, then took a 1-0 lead after one inning in the second game. But MT dropped game one in a slug fest 9-5 before falling in game two 5-1.
Charlotte quickly started in the first game as Grave Beatty doubled home Emma Ocker to get the scoring started in the top of the first. Meredith Harris followed with a base hit to score Haley Pace and the 49ers quickly led 2-0.
Middle Tennessee came back fast however as Megan Griffith hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the first. The three run blast to center scored Precious Birdsong and Morgan Harris and the Raiders had a 3-2 lead after just one inning of play.
Neither team got a base runner in the second, but Pace homered with one on in the top of the third for Charlotte. The blast gave the 49ers their lead back as they went up 4-3.
One inning later Ocker doubled home Erin Powers. Then Pace followed with another RBI hit as she hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Ocker and increased the Charlotte lead to 6-3. In the bottom of the fourth Kristen Uselton hit a two-out, two RBI double to left that plated Dani Munoz and Deja Portillo and the Raiders were right back in the game, cutting the lead to 6-5 after the fourth.
After a scoreless fifth Charlotte got the bats going again in the sixth. Pace and Beatty hit back-to-back doubles to score three more runs and the 49ers lead was the largest of the day at 9-5.
Lexi Betancourt (18-14) earned the victory for Charlotte as she set a new school record for wins. Betancourt did allow five runs, but in the five innings she kept the Raiders off the scoreboard, she faced just two over the minimum.
Kelci Cheney (14-14) took another loss for MT as she is now .500 on the season. Cheney allowed six runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings. Pattie Taylor worked out of the bullpen again and allowed three runs on four hits in 3.1 innings.
Game two started well again for Middle Tennessee as Carlie Jenkins doubled home Birdsong with game's first run in the bottom of the first. The Raiders led 1-0, but unfortunately that's all the offense the Raiders saw in game two.
All of Charlotte's offense came in one inning as well as they scored five in the top of the fourth. With two outs Ocker doubled home two runs to give the 49ers a 2-1 lead. Two batters later Pace hit another homer, this time a three-run blast, and Charlotte's lead grew to 5-1.
Other than the fourth, Megan Chocallo (4-8) pitched well for MT in the second contest as she allowed five runs on eight hits, but completed all 7.0 innings in the loss. Without the fourth inning, Chocallo only allowed four hits and no runs in the contest.
Haley Wiseman (12-7) earned the win for Charlotte as she allowed just the one run on four hits as she too pitched a complete game.
The Raiders will be back in action at Blue Raider Softball Field one last time this season as they finish their series with Charlotte tomorrow at noon. It will be Senior Day, so fans should come early to celebrate Randi Cookus, Griffith, Jenkins and Cheney as it will be their final home game as Blue Raiders.
