Perrin Buford and Darnell Harris receiving NBA interest
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A pair of Blue Raiders are on the radar of NBA teams with the draft approaching as both Perrin Buford and Darnell Harris have recently taken part in NBA Draft workouts.
Buford made his first visit to Boston on May 21 to work out for the Celtics, who have asked the 6-foot-6 guard/forward back for a second look on June 20.
The Decatur, Ala., native averaged 12.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in his final season as a Blue Raider while serving as the team's top shot blocker with 40 rejections. He totaled 62 blocks across his two-year career in blue, landing him in seventh all-time at Middle Tennessee.
"I've been working a lot on increasing my range," Buford said. "I can shoot the three, but I've been doing a lot more drills to improve my 3-point shot."
Buford has an excellent mid-range game knocking down over 50 percent of his field goal attempts on the season and was effective from beyond the arc (16-of-38) as well in a small sample size.
"I've been doing a lot of ball-handling drills, too, because I know in order to play professional basketball I may end up being a two-guard where I'll have more ball-handling responsibilities and will need to knock down the three more consistently."
Harris, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., worked out for the hometown Bucks on Wednesday, his first draft workout for an NBA team thus far.
The pick-and-pop post man was a dangerous threat from outside for the Blue Raiders, averaging 11.7 points per game while making 58 threes in his senior campaign at a .397 clip. He finished his career with a 38.8 percent conversion rate from long range, good for 10th all-time at MT.
"I've basically been working on the same stuff I was working on while I was in school to be prepared for workouts, I'm just putting in more reps," Harris said. "I've also been working out with a trainer who has gotten me in better shape.
"[The workout] was exciting, especially with it being my hometown team. I was a little nervous at first but it was fun once I got out on the court."
"It was really cool seeing where the Bucks practice and everything. I shot really well while I was there and I think they really liked my confidence and the journey I've been on to make it to where I'm at now."
The 2016 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 23 and will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
