Will participate in Titans 12th Man tradition
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raider men's basketball team will be honored before the Tennessee Titans home football game this Sunday for its outstanding performance last season.
Middle Tennessee head coach Kermit Davis and 16 players will be a part of the "Titans 12th Man" tradition, a fan initiative that was introduced in 2010. The unique ceremony was formulated to energize the crowd before each Tennessee Titans home game.
After player introductions, Coach Davis and the team will run out of the tunnel to midfield and Davis will drive the 12th Titan Sword into the turf before the noon kickoff against the Oakland Raiders.
"We're very thankful for the Titans organization to be honoring our team and Middle Tennessee State University on Sunday," Davis said. "It will be another great day of publicity for the Blue Raiders.
"We're all big Titans fans and follow them very closely and we're looking forward to seeing Kevin [Byard] play and we hope to bring them some luck against the Raiders."
Traditionally, the honorees have some Tennessee roots, and could be a celebrity, civic leader, community hero or a former Titans player.
Past "Titans 12th Man" recipients have included Pat Summitt, former Titan Jevon Kearse, Oakland A's pitcher and Smyrna native Sonny Gray and Olympic gold medalist and Vanderbilt alumnus Shawn Johnson.
