MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee jumped out to an early lead over Bryan College on Tuesday evening and was able to hang on through the final innings. It is the second victory of the fall season for the Blue Raiders with the final score being 6-4 in the 10 inning contest.
The game was highlighted by an inside the park home run from Precious Birdsong. The rest of the Blue Raiders amassed nine hits, including doubles from Lexi Cushing and Kristin Uselton.
Five pitchers once again took the mound for Middle Tennessee. Cori Jennings got the start with Gretchen Greer, Veronica Westfall, Pattie Ruth Taylor and Sarah Pinkston also seeing action. As a unit, they recorded seven strikeouts and four walks. Taylor was able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth to preserve the win.
Like the first fall outing, nearly every Blue Raider on the roster got a chance to see action. Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch got her first at bat while it was Birdsong's first appearance this year as well. Keely McGee, Cushing, Birdsong and Jennings also picked up their first starts in the game.
Next up, Middle Tennessee will host Cumberland University on Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Blue Raider Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
