Blue Raiders shut down Cumberland

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball team was victorious in their third game of the fall on Thursday evening. The Blue Raiders defeated Cumberland University 15-0 in 8 1/3 innings of action. The teams were due to play 10 innings but the game was cut short due to heavy rainfall.

The Blue Raiders scored in every inning except the second behind strong pitching from Veronica Westfall, Cori Jennings, Gretchen Greer and Sarah Pinkston. The four combined for 12 strikeouts, six of which came from Westfall in the first three innings of action. The squad also gave up just two hits and only one walk.

On offense, MT totaled 15 hits in the game. Morgan Harris, Kirstyn Cuccia and Payton Grove smashed doubles in the contest while each recording two RBI as well.
The Blue Raiders were terrors on the base path, recording 15 stolen bases. Grove amassed four while Keely McGee stole three.

Middle looks ahead to a game on Saturday, Oct. 1 against Motlow State at 2pm. The game will be played at Coffee County HS. The Blue Raiders next home contest of the fall will be on Sunday, Oct. 16. MT hosts Cleveland State CC in a 10 inning contest beginning at noon.
