MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After getting back in the win column Thursday evening with a 64-51 toppling of Old Dominion, Middle Tennessee now turns its focus to Saturday's contest against Charlotte.
The Blue Raiders and 49ers have met six times previously, with MT holding a 5-1 advantage in the series. Head Coach Kermit Davis and the Blue Raiders have won all five meetings since joining Conference USA, giving them a five-game streak in the series.
The teams have met in Murfreesboro just once before when Middle Tennessee captured a 72-69 regular season win in 2015.
Middle Tennessee (21-4, 11-1) comes off of a defensive battle between the top two scoring defenses in Conference USA as they held Old Dominion to just 51 points on the evening, but now face Charlotte (11-12, 5-7) and its third-ranked scoring offense (78.4 ppg) in the league.
Senior forward Reggie Upshaw bounced back in a big way Thursday, collecting a game-high 18 points to help MT get past Old Dominion and 1,400 points for his career. Junior guard Giddy Potts pitched in 14 points in the contest as the Blue Raiders moved to 8-0 all-time against the Monarchs.
The 49ers are led by sophomore guard Jon Davis, C-USA's leading scorer (20.0 ppg) and Charlotte's leader in field goal percentage (.510), free throw percentage (.832) and assists (95).
Middle Tennessee and Charlotte will tip off at 5:00 p.m. in the Murphy Center with the contest streamed live on Campus Insiders.
