MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Now over the halfway point in its mid-season nine-match road swing, Middle Tennessee is set to travel to Chattanooga to take on the Mocs Sunday at Noon at the Guerry Tennis Center.
"This week we had some good practices and a great team meeting," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "Our schedule took a toll on us early in the season, but our team is playing hard and staying healthy."
The Blue Raiders have won two straight over the Mocs and lead the all-time series, 19-17. Chattanooga is much-improved from last season, as Chad Camper took over head coaching duties in the fall after three seasons at Louisiana Tech.
Chattanooga is led by Samantha Caswell with a 6-3 mark at the top spot in the lineup. Caroline Hall and Sydney Patton both have seven dual match singles wins at the No. 3 and 4 positions.
The Mocs have struggled in the doubles portion of the match at times this season, with Caswell and Rachele Gazzola posting a 4-3 record at No. 1 doubles, the only winning mark by a Chattanooga duo up to this point. As a team, the Mocs have a .423 winning percentage in doubles so far this season.
"Costanza Magazzini and Lidia Burrows have had some success in doubles, but we've challenged our whole group to step up," Ramsay added. "We've got to have all seven girls ready to play every match."
MT is winless in road matches this season in five matches, while Chattanooga owns a perfect home record through four matches.
"This match will be a battle, and we're excited to play outdoors again," Ramsay said. "Our matches against Chattanooga have always been good battles. They've proven that they're good, so we're going to have to be ready to battle from start to finish on Sunday."
Live stats will be available for the match. Follow the Blue Raiders on Twitter, @MT_WomensTennis, and like them on Facebook, MTSU Women's Tennis, for match updates and information throughout the season.
