MT with final tune-up before league championships
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In one of the final tune-ups before conference championships, Middle Tennessee's indoor track and field teams are set to host the annual MTSU Invite this weekend.
The Blue Raiders will host in-state foes Austin Peay, Belmont and Tennessee State along with former OVC rival Eastern Kentucky.
Saturday's meet with feature a pair of this week's C-USA Athletes of the Week in Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad and Solomon Afful.
In the field, Abdullah-Muhammad seeks to improve on last week's leap of 19'11" (6.07 meters) in the long jump, which landed her a first-place spot atop the league rankings in the event.
Afful made his Blue Raiders debut last week at the KMS Invitational and excelled with two personal-best marks. The junior grabbed a first-place finish in the 200 meter event with a time of 21.03, while also finishing second in the 60 meter dash with a 6.76 mark.
Also on the track, Janet Amponsah, who is slated to run in the 55 meter and 200 meter events, currently ranks first in the 60 meter dash and second 200 meter run in the league standings.
Along with this weekend's annual meet, six other Blue Raiders are set to compete in the Camel City Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C. in search of improving their times for a berth in the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
