MT was shutout for the second time this season
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Middle Tennessee dropped its second straight game to Indiana Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 at Bart Kaufman Field.
The Blue Raiders (8-8) had difficulty finding their bats in the blistering cold, while the Hoosiers (6-7-1) pitching staff was solid in the game.
IU struck first for the second game in-a-row, this time with a leadoff home run to right field to start the game.
IU added another run in the fourth.
The Blue Raiders had a chance to get back in the game in the sixth when, Riley Delgado hit a leadoff double, his third double of the series. Later in the inning, Delgado advanced to third with one out. Austin Dennis hit a fly ball to shallow center, Delgado tagged up and was thrown out of the plate to end the inning and the Blue Raider scoring threat.
The Hoosiers put the game away in the seventh and eighth innings, adding two runs in both innings.
Redshirt freshman Devin Conn had his best start of the season, hurling 4-1/3 innings, while allowing two runs, on five hits, no walks, while striking out two.
Senior catcher Chaz Vesser continued his solid hitting in the series, going 2-of-3 in Sunday's game.
Blue Raiders are back home to take on No. 25 Tennessee Tuesday at 6 pm. The game could possibly be moved up during the day due to weather.
