Raiders put end to skid, beat Pacific

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis put an end to a six-game skid Monday by blanking Pacific, 4-0, and followed that by taking two points from No. 45 Cal Poly on Wednesday.
The Blue Raiders got off to a hot start on the week by earning the doubles point with a dominant win, 6-0, by Tom Moonen and Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore at No. 1, followed by a 6-3 triumph by Max Rauch and Nicolas Buitrago Machado on court three.
Rauch kept his momentum going into the singles match at No. 6, where he bested his opponent, 6-1, 6-3. Morell also took a straight-set win, 6-4, 6-2, at the second spot in the lineup.
Miguel Negre Fernandez clinched the fifth Blue Raider win this season with a three-set win at the No. 3 spot.
Against No. 45 Cal Poly, MT lost doubles matches at No. 1 and 2 by slim margins, allowing the Mustangs to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
After Cal Poly took a straight-set win at No. 2 to make the score 2-0, Negre put the Blue Raiders on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph.
The Mustangs took a 6-4, 6-4 win at the sixth spot in the lineup, followed by straight-set wins at No. 1 and 4. Gian Issa won in a match-tiebreak at the No. 5 spot to make the final score 5-2, in favor of Cal Poly.
Middle Tennessee winds down the full week of matches on Sunday at No. 25 Tulane. The Green Wave notched three in the latest ITA singles rankings, along with one doubles combo in the top 80.
The Green Wave boasts an 8-2 record heading into two matches this weekend, including their Sunday afternoon showdown against the Blue Raiders. Tulane's only two losses this season have come against Cal and Mississippi State, currently ranked No. 6 and 16, respectively, in the latest ITA rankings.
