MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders are back in action Tuesday for game four of their eight-game home stand, when they take on Belmont at 6 p.m. at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
The Blue Raiders lead the overall series 41-14. Tuesday will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with MT defeating BU 6-4 two weeks ago in Nashville.
MT is 3-0 in its last three mid-week games.
No one on this Blue Raider team has a hotter bat than second baseman Ryan Kemp. Kemp is on a tear as of late going 9-of-12 (10-of-15 last week) in the Old Dominion series this past weekend. The 5'4" JUCO transfer's power and speed were on display, powering two home runs, and four doubles last week, to go along with three stolen bases, reaching safely on all three attempts.
Kemp also scored seven runs in his last four games, while also drawing four walks and no strikeouts.
Redshirt junior Aaron Aucker had a huge impact this weekend for MT after missing the previous three weeks with a hamstring injury. The cleanup hitter went 6-of-11 in the series against ODU, including his first-ever multi-HR game Sunday in the Blue Raiders 17-6 rout of the Monarchs.
Senior Kaleb King also got his bat going recently, hitting .400 over his last five games.
Freshman Grant Williams will get his fourth straight mid-week start on the mound. The Hendersonville native, is coming off of a tough outing in Knoxville against Tennessee, a game in which the Blue Raiders ended up winning.
Williams was the starting pitcher against this Belmont team, two weeks ago, throwing his longest outing of the season, 5-2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out two.
Belmont will start LHP Justin Fowlkes Tuesday. Fowlkes is 2-0, with a 1.50 ERA, Tuesday will be his second start of the year.
The Bruins are coming off a series loss to Austin Peay this past weekend.
An audio broadcast will be available on CUSA.TV/RaiderVision and on the radio (92.3 FM WMOT 2). Follow live tweets on Twitter (@MT_Baseball).
