MURFREESBORO – The Middle Tennessee men's golf team will head to Texarkana, AR this weekend for the 2017 Conference USA Championship. This year's event will take place at the Texarkana Country Club (par 72, 6,935 yards) where the Blue Raiders finished fifth a year ago and one spot out of the match play portion of the championship.
The Blue Raiders enter the tournament as the league's No. 1 seed with a C-USA best ranking of No. 53 nationally.
"We've had a great week of preparation and everyone is excited to get the tournament underway," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "This group has been tested well all year and I know we are ready for the challenge."
The 13-team tournament will have three 18-hole rounds of stroke play beginning Sunday. Following the results of stroke play, the top four teams will advance to a seeded match play round to be held Wednesday.
The team champion after match play will earn C-USA's automatic berth into the NCAA Regional.
The Blue Raiders will have a practice round on Saturday followed by the championship banquet that night. First round action will get underway Sunday morning beginning at 8 AM with the Blue Raiders starting at 9:20 AM.
The Blue Raider lineup this weekend will include senior Joey Savoie (71.5), freshman Ilari Saulo (72.0), sophomore Marcus Byrd (72.8), freshman Chip Thomas (73.4) and junior Hoyeong Kim (73.5).
Kim and Byrd played in last year's championship at the Texarkana CC. Kim tied for 12th with a 220 total while Byrd tied for 26th.
