Amponsah, Walsh qualify for Regional quarterfinals

LEXINGTON, Ky. — For the second-straight day, Middle Tennessee qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships as Abike Egbeniyi, Agnes Abu and Eliud Rutto joined Jacob Choge for a trip to Eugene, Ore. next month.

Egbeniyi and Abu completed a 1, 2 finish in the third heat to continue their success in the women's 800-meter run. Egbeniyi posted a school-record time of 2:02.34 and finished second overall, while Abu took ninth overall with a time of 2:02.93.

On the men's side, Eliud Rutto claimed a spot in next month's Championships, clocking a 1:48.23 in the 800-meter run to finished 10th.

A pair of Blue Raiders also qualified for Saturday's East Regional quarterfinals in hopes of joining the team in Eugene.

Janet Amponsah clocked a time of 23.14 in the women's 200-meter dash, while Tahir Walsh qualified with a time of 20.87 in the men's 200-meter dash.

Amponsah and Walsh are set to appear in Saturday's quarterfinal round at 6:35 p.m. and 6:50 p.m., respectively.

The women's 4x400-meter relay squad is also set for the track Saturday at 8:25 p.m., while Jacob Patten will take flight in the men's high jump at 5 p.m.
