MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis is slated for a doubleheader Saturday against Lipscomb and Murray State at the Adams Tennis Complex, with action getting underway at 10 a.m.
"Fans can expect to see both teams come in here and want to win," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "They're big matches for them, just like they are for us. I think Lipscomb will be especially tough in doubles and towards the top of the lineup. We're absolutely giving this weekend our full attention like we always do."
Lipscomb and Murray State both return the majority of their singles starters from 2017. The Bisons will be looking to avenge their 5-2 loss to the Blue Raiders at the ATC last season. Lipscomb is led at the top of the lineup by Viktoriya Dzyuba, who was ranked nationally by the ITA in singles during parts of last season. Dzyuba paired with Denise Buberl in 2017 for a 12-1 record at the top doubles spot.
Murray State was 7-12 last season and saw their season end in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, dropping their match to Eastern Kentucky by a score of 4-2. Claire Chang, Jeanne Masson and Aarja Charkraborty all won two matches in three days at the 2018 Spring Kickoff hosted by Troy last weekend. The Racers were 2-5 in doubles matches in the event.
"I thought we had a great turnout last weekend, and it really helps," Ramsay added. "Our girls should feel well supported, and it makes for a great college tennis experience when we have the support of our great tennis community."
Live stats will be available for both matches, and there will be free koozies given out while supplies last. Admission is free to every Middle Tennessee match at the Adams Tennis Complex.
