Volleyball Travels to UAB for Sunday Match

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team treks to Birmingham, Ala. to face UAB in its next conference match on Sunday, Oct. 28. The Blue Raiders will meet the Blazers at the Bartow Arena on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
Last Meeting of the Blue Raiders and Blazers
The Blue Raiders matched up with the Blazers in the Alumni Memorial Gym on Friday, Oct. 19, handing Middle Tennessee its first sweep of the season. The three-set victory marked the sixth sweep of UAB in the program's history for Middle Tennessee.
Senior Bailey Mason led the way for the Blue Raiders, notching 17 kills in the match while hitting on a .400 clip while senior Regan Coughlin (9) and junior Dora Peonia (7) contributed a combined 16 kills.
Middle Tennessee hit on a .302 clip in the match while holding the Blazer offense to a .126 clip while creating a +15-kill margin (44-29) over the UAB offense.
From the Blue Raider backrow, junior Brienna Tankesley added 18 digs in the contest, averaging 6.00 digs per set.
Scouting UAB
Since falling in straight-sets to Middle Tennessee, the Blazers have inked one win over LA Tech in the Bartow Arena on Friday evening.
The Blazer attack is led by Abby Carlile, who inks 244 kills on the season to average 3.01 kills per set. Similarly, Carlile aids the UAB defense as well adding 85 digs and 60 blocks on the season.
Meanwhile, the Blazers have a balanced backrow with four members recording 150 or more digs this season with Emily Martinez leading the way, inking 227 this season.
Mason Earns C-USA Offensive Player of the Week Honors
Mason continued to swing aggressively for the Blue Raiders last weekend, recording 32 kills in two three-set match victories over UAB and UTEP. Mason reduced herself to only four errors in the two matches, hitting on a .389 clip. Likewise, the senior added 11 digs, five service aces and three blocks over the weekend.
In the match versus UTEP, Mason was a crucial player in the second set, as the senior inked back-to-back kills before recording a service ace for the Blue Raiders to clinch the second set over UTEP, 27-25. Similarly, Mason notched seven of her 15 kills over UTEP in the third set to aid Middle Tennessee in grabbing the three-set win over the Miners.

The Blue Raiders return to the Alumni Memorial Gym next weekend to play their final home matches of the season. The team will host North Texas on Friday, Nov. 2 before honoring the teams three seniors for senior night on Sunday, Nov. 4, hosting UTSA.
