MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee saw Trevecca use a strong fourth quarter to take an 88-71 victory in an exhibition game at Murphy Center Wednesday night.
The Lady Raiders led 56-53 entering the final quarter, but Trevecca outscored Middle Tennessee, 35-15, in the final 10 minutes, including an 11-0 run to start the frame.
"We just didn't play well, but I want to give Trevecca a lot of credit," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Insell said. "They executed, they played extremely hard and they are well coached. They came in here with a mindset that they were going to win this game and they played that way throughout. I have a lot of respect for that so let's give credit where it is due."
While Middle Tennessee did not have a good night defensively and was guilty of an uncharacteristic 25 turnovers, Insell said there positives.
"We are still 0-0," Insell said. "We do know that we have a lot of work to do, obviously. I saw some positives, and I also saw some things that were not pleasing. I thought Jadona Davis really battled in there and Anna Jones had another strong game. We don't have very good chemistry right now and that's my fault. I thought I had more players. I have 15 players but not all of them are ready to play right now."
Freshman Taylor Sutton led four players in double figures with 16. Davis finished with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting and added four rebounds. Alex Johnson finished with 12 points and Jones tallied 10 points and pulled four rebounds.
Middle Tennessee led 38-34 at the half and kept the lead at three going into the final quarter, but Trevecca used the 11-0 run to build a cushion it wouldn't give up.
Trevecca was led by Callie Hackett's 19 points, five rebounds and five assists.
The Lady Raiders will play their season opener against Vanderbilt, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
