MT Drops Heartbreaker to FAU in Overtime of C-USA Tournament

NORFOLK, Va. - The Middle Tennessee soccer team fell to No. 2 Florida Atlantic, 2-1 in overtime in the opening round of the C-USA Tournament on Wednesday. Amber Hoot scored the opening goal of the game in the 40th minute but the Owls were able to claw back with goals in the 60th minute and 93rd minute despite being outshot 15-13. The Blue Raiders end the season with a 10-7-1 record.

9' – CHANCE (MT) – Peyton DePriest took the first shot of the game as Maddi Falter sprinted onto a long ball. She laid it off to DePriest, but her shot went wide.
12' – CHANCE (MT) – DePriest was at it again a few minutes later on a through ball from Hannah Tillett. The chance went high this time to keep the game scoreless.
17' – CHANCE (FAU) – Carolynn Wotring finds the ball near the top of the box and takes a shot but Leslie Frye is there to step in front and block it before it reaches the goal.
24' – CHANCE (MT) – DePriest gets taken down at the top of the box and is awarded a free kick. Tillett takes it but the FAU keeper is able to tip it over the top of the net for a corner kick.
25' – CHANCE (MT) – DePriest gets taken down again following the corner kick. Amber Hoot takes this free kick but her shot goes wide left.
33' – CHANCE (FAU) – The Owls move into the Raider end of the field and Jessica Monteiro takes a shot from range but it goes wide right.
38' – CHANCE (MT) – Gwen Breslin gets the ball and creates space for herself with a spin move. She takes a shot but the UAB keeper is able to collect it on the goal line.
40' – GOAL (MT) – Sydney Navarro beats the Owl midfield and lays off a pass to DePriest near the top of the box. DePriest moves the ball forward where Amber Hoot dribbles around the FAU keeper and remaining defenders before sending an easy shot into the back of the net. 49'- CHANCE (MT) – Carolin Engelhard takes a shot with a good look at goal from the top of the box as DePriest laid it off to her. The shot sails well high of the goal though.
55' – CHANCE (MT) – Casey Riemer makes a nice run up the right sideline and crosses the ball into the box. Maddi Falter collects it and Taylor Hatch takes the shot but it's blocked by the FAU defense.
59' – SAVE (FAU) – DePriest lays off a pass to Maddi Falter who is able to take a shot. Falter dribbles before cutting inside but the FAU keeper collects the opportunity on the line.
60' – GOAL (FAU) – Tiril Haga equalizes for the Owls on a pass from Sammy Vitols following a throw in.
77' – CHANCE (MT) – Miya Lennon moves forward and has a nice give and go but her shot is blocked for a corner kick.
80' – SAVE (MT) – The Owls get a breakaway after strong MT pressure forward but Celeste Barnard comes up big to tip the ball over the top of the goal for her first save of the game.
82' – CHANCE (FAU) – The Owls nearly take the lead on a long cross the karate chop shot goes over the top the net.
83' – SAVE (MT) – Barnard comes up big again as she is able to tip the ball over the top of the goal again on a shot from the top of the box.
84' – CHANCE (MT) – Peyton gets sent a through ball and beats the defense to it. However, the FAU goalie is able to come out and make a save on the shot.

93' – GOAL (FAU) – Emma Grissom scores on a stretch of end line pass from Pernille Velta and Mary O'Hara.
The Blue Raiders will return to action in the spring with a schedule release in 2019.
