MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee Volleyball team (5-11, 0-4) dropped its Friday evening contest to Rice (13-4, 4-0)
Redshirt-sophomore Aubrie Huddleston led the teams offense in the match against Rice, recording eight kills in the three-set contest. Likewise, senior Bailey Mason posted seven kills for the Blue Raiders while junior Dora Peonia and freshman Emma Grever posted four apiece.
From her setter position, junior Taylor Hammill inked 27 assists while contributing six digs in the match.
Meanwhile, junior Brienna Tankesley controlled the backrow for Middle Tennessee, notching 11 digs. Similarly, senior Regan Coughlin added eight digs while Mason added five.
The Blue Raiders opened the first frame recording the first two kills of the contest from Peonia and Maxim. However, Rice fought back to record the next two kills in the contest to tie the set at 2-all. The frame continued to go back and forth as the set tied another seven times (11-11) before the Owls went on a 3-0 run over the Blue Raiders (14-11). A pair of kills from Maxim and Huddleston brought Middle Tennessee within two of Rice (18-16) but the team was unable to get any closer as the Blue Raiders dropped the first frame, 25-18.
Despite the teams hard fought effort, the Blue Raiders were unable to gain momentum in the second set, dropping the frame, 25-13. Similarly, Middle Tennessee was unable to stop the Owls in the third and final set, falling to Rice, 25-16.
