COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team improved to 2-0 after clinching its first road win of the season at Furman, 78-71, on Nov. 11. The team looks to build upon its early success on Friday, Nov. 16 as the squad travels to Cookeville, Tenn. for a Friday evening clash at Tennessee Tech (1-1).
Tale of the Tape: The Blue Raiders and the Golden Eagles
Last season, the Lady Raiders claimed their 42nd victory over the Golden Eagles, 58-44, in the Murphy Center on Nov. 17, 2017. Overall, Middle Tennessee holds the all-time series record over Tennessee Tech, 42-38. Despite the team's leading record over TTU the Blue Raiders have has only secured 15 wins in Cookeville to the Golden Eagles 22 victories in the Hooper Elben Center.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
Tennessee Tech enters the contest on Friday with a 1-1 record, claiming its first victory of the season over Cumberland University (88-55) before falling to Xavier (70-60).
Junior guard Akia Harris and sophomore guard Jordan Brock have been the key to the Golden Eagle's offense in the team's first two games of the season. The duo averaged a combined 63.5 minutes during the Golden Eagles opening weekend. Harris was 8-of-28 from the field (.286) while knocking down 5-of-7 from the free throw line (.714). Meanwhile, Brock has notched 7-of 19 from the field and is 5-of-13 from the arc (.385).
The Golden Eagles are active on the boards, creating a +10 (78-68) rebounding margin over their opponents in their first two games.
Johnson Back in Form for her Senior Season
Senior Alex Johnson returns the court with a dominate effort in her final season with the Blue Raiders. During her first game of the season, Johnson claimed 19 points over Vanderbilt, helping the team secure a 65-58 victory over the Commodores. In the contest, the senior forward was 4-of-7 from the field and 10-of-12 shooting on free throws while adding six rebounds for the team. Likewise, Johnson posted 12 points in the team's second victory of the season over Furman.
Respectively, Johnson earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors while being named to the NCAA Starting Five after her opening weekend efforts.

After playing the Golden Eagles on Friday, Middle Tennessee will return to the Murphy Center to host Belmont on Monday, Nov. 19 at 6:30p.m.
